A turnkey e-publishing application. LookUP! is a cross-platform solution for publishers, providing them direct access to their target audience. We were asked by a German customer to create an e-book. The client's primary demands were simplicity of use for both publishers and end-users. It was essential that publishers could quickly upload, manage, and modify content. The client wanted to realize the idea of reader comments in the application, namely, commenting not only with text but also with the help of images and audio. Silk Data developers created a solid and reliable cross-platform (iOS, Android, and Web) e-publishing solution to help businesses take control over digital content distribution. Here are the main functions that LookUP! provides: End-user benefits Obtain books, loose-leaf works, magazines, and other specialized publications. Create annotated bookmarks and add own annotations, like text, images, photos, and audio comments. Get access to specific pages via thumbnails and filter annotations in the overview according to certain criteria. Publisher benefits Automatically import additional pages into an existing base project. Create publications with metadata (title, description, authors, size, etc.) that is searchable in the library. Arrange educational and media content in the library. Provide different models of content distribution to end-users: purchase, subscription, and rent. Key Results The outcome of the project is a multifunctional application that is available on the App Store and Google Play and has a web version. The approach won praise from the Swiss secondary education sector for both the way it distributed content and gave teachers the feedback they required.
